Movies to Watch if You Love Car Chase Scenes

Are you an action movie buff that loves to get into scenes that involve fancy cars or wild car chases?  When you enjoy this type of film, you will want to be sure to catch some of the classics and also some of the more modern movies with crazy special effects.  Stunt drivers have been pulling off wild car chases for years, and they have only become more enhanced with the evolution of special effects in theatrical performances.  There are a few movies that you must watch if you love car chase scenes.

Smokey and the Bandit, 1977

One of our icons, Burt Reynolds, rose to fame thanks to his role in this film.  As Bo "Bandit" Darville, Reynolds pulled off a legendary jump in a Trans Am that you won't want to miss.  He was able to successfully jump over a dysfunctional bridge, which was achieved by strapping a booster rocket to the car.  His stunt driver in this film was coincidentally also the director, Hal Needman.

The Blues Brothers, 1980

If you haven't already caught this film for its classic car chase scene, you will want to give it a watch as soon as you can get your hands on it.  Dan Akroyd, playing character Elwood Blues, and John Belushi, playing Elwood's brother, embark on an entertaining car chase through downtown Chicago that includes the police, a band that also rivals theirs, and also the Illinois Nazis.  This stunt took 60 police cars and 40 stunt drivers to pull off, and it was all worth it.

Ronin, 1998

Robert De Niro, stars in this movie directed by former race car driver, John Frankenheimer, who infused his love of cars into this film.  Naturally, it contains many car chases that make this a car lover must-see.  In this film, some of the car chases feel thrilling and fast because the cars were actually going at speeds of about 120 during filming.  Typically, car chases on film aren't actually performed at such high speeds as they are depicted, which makes this unique.

Bullit, 1968

Steve McQueen, a fellow car enthusiast, actually got to play out his car-loving dreams in this film.  As a San Francisco cop who is constantly being chased in his 1968 Ford Mustang GT, McQueen's character gets himself in and out of scrapes with many criminals throughout the whole movie.  In fact, one of the 10-minute car chases in this film has changed the way that car chases were filmed from here on out.
